NİĞDE MURTAZA DAM

Located approximately 12 kilometers east of the city of Aksaray on the Uluırmak Stream, the Mamasın Dam is a clay-core rockfill dam constructed for irrigation and drinking water supply. The initial construction began in 1965. After 20 years, the dead storage was completely filled, necessitating a dam height increase.

Between March 1986 and December 1992, the height of the dam and its structures was raised. The dam body was increased by 5.5 meters, and the intake structure was raised by 3.5 meters to create new dead storage. These works were executed under the authority of the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ).

Technical specifications of the project:

  • Body volume: 400,000 m³
  • Total height: 44.90 meters
  • Reservoir volume at normal water level: 165.80 hm³
  • Surface area at normal water level: 16.20 km²
  • Irrigated area: approx. 24,854 hectares

The total construction cost amounted to ₺14,477,000, and the works were completed within five years.

Due to the elevation increase, an existing road was submerged. A 10.5 km-long replacement road was built in coordination with the General Directorate of Highways, including bridges, culverts, and both substructure and superstructure works.

Scope of work included:

  • Raising the dam body
  • Raising the intake and spillway structures
  • Construction of the new highway, including bridges and culverts

All works were completed, and final accounts and project handover were delivered to the responsible authorities.
