AKSARAY MAMASIN DAM

Between March 1986 and December 1992, Yöntaş A.Ş. (practical site management) oversaw the raising of the Mamasın Dam in Aksaray, located 12 km east on the Uluırmak River, officially under the supervision of the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ). The Mamasın Dam is a rockfill dam with a clay core for irrigation and drinking water supply. The dam volume is 400,000 m³, with a height of 44.90 meters above the riverbed. The reservoir capacity at normal water level is 165.80 hm³, covering an area of 16.20 km². The dam irrigates approximately 24,854 hectares and supplies drinking water to Aksaray.

Initial construction began in 1965. After 20 years of sediment filling in the dead storage, the dam raising started in 1986. The dam and spillway were raised by 5.5 meters, and the intake structure by 3.5 meters, creating a new dead storage. The raising flooded the existing road, necessitating a 10.5 km road realignment in coordination with the road and water authorities.

The scope of work included dam raising, spillway and intake structure elevation, road construction (sub- and superstructure), as well as bridges and culverts. The project was completed within 5 years at a total cost of 14,477,000 TL.
