MANİSA GÖRDES DAM

The Gördes Dam project included soil improvement measures and final works, along with technical coordination and site management on behalf of the client.

The Gördes Dam was constructed between 1998 and 2009 on the Gördes River in the province of Manisa. The objective was to irrigate surrounding agricultural land and supply the city of İzmir with drinking water. After commissioning in 2011, leakages were discovered the following year. A concrete injection in 2013 was ineffective, resulting in the dam being drained in 2015, and the foundation was sealed at a cost of approximately ₺20.8 million. From late 2016, water could again be partially stored, and final completion was achieved in 2017.

As part of the remediation works, 20 million m³ of water were released from the dead storage zone, and approximately 1 million m³ of sludge was removed.

The following technical works were carried out:

  • 330,000 m² of sealing using membranes, bentonite mats, geocells, and protective concrete
  • 100,000 m² of sealing concrete in rocky sections
  • Installation of slurry trench curtains in selected areas

After implementation of these measures, the leakages in both the reservoir basin and dam body were successfully resolved.
