BAĞIŞTAŞ - 1 DAM & HPP

From 02.08.2012 to 15.03.2015, the Bağıştaş-1 Dam was constructed under the direction of IC İÇTAŞ Construction in Erzincan. It is an embankment dam on the Euphrates River, near the village of Bağıştaş in the İliç district of Erzincan Province. The main purpose of the structure is power generation, with an installed capacity of 140.4 MW. Construction began in 2011, and energy production started in 2015. The 50-meter-high dam features a clay core, sand and gravel zoned fill, and an upstream riprap facing. The maximum turbine discharge is 330 m³/s, and the estimated project cost was USD 286,000,000.

The project scope included:

• 19.3 km railway relocation
• 6 km divided highway relocation
• 3 km tunnel construction
• 7 bridges and viaducts
• Building works: school, place of worship, health center, 300 residential units
• 20 km relocation of NATO pipeline, electricity, and telecommunications lines

The works were accepted on 19.02.2015 by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) and on 27.02.2015 by the Ministry of Energy; energy production began on the same day.
